Ingredients

  • 2 prepared pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)
  • 6 large apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
  • coarse sugar, for sprinkling
  • vanilla ice cream, for serving

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 425°F. Press one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.

  2. 2

Toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.

  3. 3

Pile the apple filling into the crust, mounding in the center. Dot with butter pieces.

  4. 4

Cut the second crust into strips and weave a lattice pattern over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal.

  5. 5

Brush the lattice with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

  6. 6

Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 35-40 more minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbling.

  7. 7

Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Save it, plan it, cook it.
