Ingredients

  • 6 ripe saba bananas (or ripe plantains; halved lengthwise)
  • 12 spring roll wrappers
  • 1/2 cup jackfruit strips (canned (drained))
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • caramel sauce for drizzling, optional

Steps

  1. 1

Roll each banana half in brown sugar to coat generously.

  2. 2

Place a sugar-coated banana and a few jackfruit strips on a spring roll wrapper. Roll tightly, folding in the sides, and seal the edge with water.

  3. 3

Heat 1 inch of oil in a skillet to 350°F.

  4. 4

Fry turon 2-3 at a time for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and caramelized.

  5. 5

Drain on paper towels. Drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

  6. 6

Serve warm — the sugar creates a crackly caramelized shell.

Save it, plan it, cook it.
