Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cup s shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente

    Brown ground beef and sausage in a large pot over medium-high heat, breaking into crumbles. Drain excess fat.

    Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes.

    Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    In a separate bowl, combine ricotta, egg, parsley, 2 cups mozzarella, and 1/2 cup Parmesan.

    Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.

    Layer 4 noodles, one-third of the ricotta mixture, and one-third of the remaining meat sauce. Repeat layers twice.

    Top with remaining 2 cups mozzarella and 1/2 cup Parmesan.

    Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.

    Let rest 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
