Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef
  • 1/2 lb pork
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 onion (finely grated)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter, for frying
  • 2 tbsp butter, for sauce
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • lingonberry jam, egg noodles or mashed potatoes, for serving

Steps

  1. 1

Soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes. Mix with beef, pork, grated onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Roll into 1.5-inch meatballs.

  2. 2

Brown meatballs in 2 tbsp butter over medium-high heat in batches, turning to sear all sides. Remove to a plate.

  3. 3

In the same pan, melt 2 tbsp butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.

  4. 4

Gradually whisk in beef broth, then heavy cream and soy sauce. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes.

  5. 5

Return meatballs to the gravy. Simmer for 10 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.

  6. 6

Serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes with a spoonful of lingonberry jam.

Save it, plan it, cook it.
